Understanding Ghana's Tax System
How PAYE Works in Ghana
Ghana uses a progressive PAYE system administered by the GRA. The first GHS 490 per month is tax-free, with 7 bands ranging from 5% to 35%.
SSNIT and Pension Tiers
Tier 1 (SSNIT) is the basic national pension: 5.5% employee + 13% employer. Tier 2 is a mandatory occupational pension: 5% employer only. Tier 3 is voluntary.
